We are disappointed and discouraged by Congress’s decision to not only defund PBS but to take back over two years of already voted upon funding to this critical resource available to each and every American, regardless of circumstances. We are proud to be a KET production and members of the greater PBS family, our show airing on over 90% of the PBS affiliate stations since we premiered in 2020. This partisan decision feels so incongruous to what we have the honor of experiencing as we travel the state, learning from and sharing the stories of the unique individuals who make up our Commonwealth. From the mountains of Appalachia, to the flowing plains of Western, Kentucky, to the verdant and inspiring land in between, the throughline has always been KET and how it has touched the lives of every single person in our state. The Farmer & The Foodie is just one example of how KET seeks to represent every person and every story our state has to share. It is an utter shame this simple and honorable mission has been so misunderstood by those in power. We are happy to share just a few of the ways KET makes an impact:
Used by more than 2 million people each week, KET is Kentucky’s only statewide broadcast network.
KET celebrates our Commonwealth with award-winning programs by, for and about Kentuckians, including its people, places, arts and culture, and more.
KET is Kentucky’s convenor for important discussions on topics such as the opioid crisis, workforce and economic development, education, health, and many others.
KET’s 15 statewide tower network supports public safety communications for the Commonwealth.
KET Educational resources are used in every Kentucky school district.
KET PBS KIDS Channel and PBS KIDS programs are available to every child and family, no matter their circumstances.
KET’s FastForward GED learning system is used nationwide with a 90% pass rate.
Federal funding from CPB amounts to less than $1 per Kentuckian per year.
If you are moved to support KET through this time of uncertainty and recalibration, we are happy to point you to this link.
And remember - No One Connects Kentucky Like KET.

Lindsey & Maggie
