It’s hard to believe that, with season four out in the world, we have now filmed 26 episodes of The Farmer & The Foodie. The evolution of our friendship-to-partnership-to-podcast-to television show most certainly didn’t happen overnight but rather the span of a decade. Yet here we are, celebrating the latest season of stories exploring Kentucky’s farmers and foodways. This season brings a blend of timeless agricultural practices - tapping maple trees for nature’s sweetest gift, cutting curd for cheese, combing the forest floor in search of wild mushrooms - to a closer look at those communities and organizations adapting to not just survive but thrive in spite of hardships encountered. In particular, our visit to Whitesburg was a lesson in the true meaning of community, this small Appalachian town a picture of raw resilience, pride, and devotion to the land many have called home for generations. Our profile of Whitesburg will air this Saturday, January 20th, at 3:30est and we hope you will tune in.
While we have the privilege of sharing age-old agricultural traditions with our audiences, we are also grateful for the perks of modern day streaming, making all episodes of The Farmer & The Foodie available at any time via the KET website. This has allowed us to share these stories of our old Kentucky home well beyond the statelines of the Bluegrass. In fact, The Farmer & The Foodie is available to air on PBS affiliates throughout the nation and has indeed appeared as regular programing in over 25 states! We are certain season four will make its way onto television screens across the US as well. And while the stories of the Kentuckians we’ve met are traveling the airways, we are racking up ideas for future episodes. We know you will find the stories and people making up season four as inspiring as we did and we hope you’ll give the recipes we share a try in your own kitchen, ideally with friends and family, both old and new.
